Gest speeker Erik Hanbery

Hi everyone, David Here

I probably should have done this post back on Monday to have a fresh memory of what did Hanbery talk about. But good thing I have a page full of random notes of what happen on that day.

Anyways Erik Hanbery was an interesting man who had done a lot in his life. When he was a collage student working at the student center. He convince the school to make them a new webpage and got paid for it. Even though it was his first time making a website. Hanbery have actually wrote books and self publish them. And has done many jobs including acting to working in the Metro parks in W.A (sadly that's all the jobs I could remember). Other than talking about himself, his speech was about how to put yourself on the internet and such. Hanbery had talk about a time when he fist made a book and stared to publish it on his own. He was clever on using a system which he print on demand for his book. Not on having a garage full of unsold books. He then went on about how eBooks were starting to catch on and how Amazon Bookstore was helping self publishers be out there in the web. Even though it seem great to be able to publish anything on the web and it seem easy. Their something that everyone needs to know about. Putting it out there is a emotional toll for anyone when they get bad review on their projects. Plus it can be hard to come back once the public marks you as a failure. These are the things people need to think about when publishing stuff on the internet.

Well that all what I remember from Hanbery speech. I know I might of left off some important detail  but its been five days and I don't even remember what I got for breakfast today. Anyway that is all.

Here's a screen shot of the website. can't find a way to link it to Blogger

Making a HTML website

Well I've done it, I finally made a HTML website. Its simple, its blue, and it has a picture of a polar bear hugging a husky.

During in class on Monday our Professor had given us a assignment on constructing a simple website. For awhile now we've been learning a lot of the history of the internet. So to have an idea was it was like back in the year 1994 we got the chance to make a website ourselves. Oh and HTML means HyperText Markup language if you don't know. Well coming back home I've got on my laptop and start on making a website. With the instruction from the Professor I thought that it would be quick and easy. It didn't turn out so well. For an hours straight I'm just there pounding on the keys trying to get the HTML program to work. With that I've just gave up and work on other homework I needed to get done. Then on Tuesday morning I just decided on checking on YouTube videos to see what I'm doing wrong. It turns out that I'm not following the directions well enough. I was typing some of the commands wrong. With some changes with the program,  I made a simple website. Here's the code to see

<body>Hey guys it's me Dave :) <br>This assignment had taken way too long to understand. But with some YouTube videos I finally get it. </body>
<marquee>Also Professor, in class can you teach me more about the basic of programing? </marquee>

Thank goodness Blogger has a way to show what this mix of letters can be seen as a website. Well anyway I wanted to know if someone else have try to make website. Not one of those user friendly website editor tools. An actual HTML format on a notepad program on your computer. Sure the program might be a little difficult to understand but after awhile its like learning a new language.

Ps. I'm going to try to show how this coding looks like in the next post

Snail mail Vs. e-mail whats really the difference-----------blogpost #2

Well we're back and this time the topic is mail Vs. e-mail.

So I wanna ask everyone this question <when was the last time you have sent a mail?>  an actual pen and paper without emojis or three letter sentences. For me the last time I've send mail was back when I was 4 years old to my great grandmother. I believe she was around 76 at the time and she wanted a care package with pictures of the family. Well back on point, you may be saying what's the point with this comparison. The two are way different and there's no point for this discussion. But if you think about it both types of mail aren't that different from one another. They were once the main way of communicating people. You have to make sure you've put down the right address or the creepy neighbor would get them. Both have to go to the post office (servers for email) to be able to distribute to the receiving party. And they can be easily taken if you don't have a secured mail box or email account. Last time I was in class our professor was having a lecture as to why both email are very similar to one another, and other stuff of course. The reason for this was when the people who invented the email, they didn't want to alienate the public. So to keep people from staying away like the plague. The team publicly says that this new program was similar as to writing a letter and send it.  As of now we can see that they're plan had work.

Ps. Still planning on posting everyday but I've didn't realize how much college work they would give me. But it's no excuse when I say that I will post everyday. So starting tomorrow I would keep my word.

Random stuff-The internet is us/ing us

So for today I wanna talk about a video I've watch in class last week

I know that some people might consider it outdated because the video is 9 years old and the web browser is 2.0. But in the video it brings up a lot of good topic about how we live in today's technology driven world. From the top of my head I could think of many new items that are learning our daily routine. Our smartphones, cars, watches, thermostat, and even the new refrigerators in the market are including technology to remember and save our preference. This may not matter to most people. Listening to your favorite music in the car then syncing your music to the home speakers when walking in is nice. Having a cloud account is greart to connect all of your devices. But here's the thing. Machine are getting smarter and smarter everyday. Like in the video; million of people are clicking, posting, tagging each day. But that's back in 2007!! Just think about today where mostly everybody, especially teenagers have some type of smartphones, computers, or tablets where they spend hours on end clicking away. Each time you get on your devices it will learn a little bit more about yourself. Your likes and dislikes. The type of music you thumbs up or down on Pandora. The cat video you share on a social network because it was playing the piano. These are the little things that the device will take a note of and remember it latter when you get back on your device. I'm not trying to freak people out with this information. All I want to tell people is about how much technology is evolving each day and how amazing it is.

Ps. Sorry for not posting anything for the last week. I was working on my driving skills so I'm able to pass my driving test on Thursday and other stuff. AnyWho I'm planning on posting every day so somethings like this would not happen again.

New topic!!!! Blogposts #1

Hello everyone,
So for today my professor had given the class a topic to discuss, which is
"what do we want out of the class"

It's not everyday for a teacher to ask us what we want to do in class. Usually the class I go to is me glue to the book while the teacher is lay back and drinking coffee. Back on point, Since the class is called " living and working in a virtual world " I want to see in the class the basics of how technology works. I wanna know how data is send and receive on the computer. And also the history. I'm only 18 years old and I don't know much of anything in the virtual world. Which is a bad thing because my major is going to be computer engineering. So if the class talks more about those things, it would be great. Another thing I wanna bring up is about the opportunity to walk around the campus to see what type of technology we have in the school. And lastly here's a biggie. Umm professor, is it possible to go on a field trip to your old job place? It would be fun to explore the place out and maybe get the entire class to wear VR. And who knows, maybe a old co-work can tell you the latest thing the company is working on. With the class getting more interactive with the new technology. I get the feeling we will get the message your trying to tell us Professor.
